Why Essential Oils: What’s the point?

Why Essential Oils: What’s the point?

Why should I use Essential Oils, I hear you cry. First of all, why the heck not?

If you’re a sucker for the old adage, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” then how about “what is good for you makes you EVEN stronger?”

No, you’re right... It hasn’t quite got the same ring to it. But it DOES make sense.

Whether this is your first dabble into Essential Oils or you’re an old pro, you might be surprised to hear that Essential Oils are not just some modern new-age phenomena.

History:

People have been using plants and Essential Oils for centuries, nay, even millennia. Frankincense was all the rage back in Egyptian times. It was extensively used in embalming practices and was a favourite household remedy when it came to common afflictions such as ulcers, hypertension, nausea, fever, indigestion and so on. Alongside Myrrh you were a guaranteed hit at the party if you brought the pair as gifts. Mind you it would have cost you a few weeks’ wages back then given the control of supply and lack of trade routes. It wouldn’t be as fresh, convenient and affordable as Aroma Energy Frankincense Pure Essential Oil, that’s for sure (<Insert apology for shameless plug here>).

Uh hum (Clear’s throat) I digress...

Did you know that the first prescription ever recorded was for frankincense oil? Whats more, the second was for peppermint oil. Humans have known for the best part of antiquity (the clever ones at least) that we don’t need to rely solely on fancy drugs or chemicals to make us better when we are down or under the weather. Nature is a medicine all in itself.

In fact, some of the mostly widely used medications today were originally sourced from plants. For example some of the first aspirin medication used was an extract of White Willow Bark. Even the modern chemo medication Paclitaxel, used to treat many forms of cancer, is sourced from the bark of the Pacific yew. The purpose of many drugs is not to cure us but to enable the body to strengthen and heal itself in the right areas.

Now I’m not saying Lavender Oil is the latest miracle drug that’s going to cure you of every disease you’ve ever heard of... especially the ones you can’t spell. But what I will say is that Essential Oils do have many properties that help prevent/relieve various symptoms. Check out our following blogs for a more detailed run through of the oils and their associated benefits.

By using Essential Oils we are simply remembering what many people and cultures have been doing for thousands of years. Returning to natural solutions where people used the pure essential part of plants, trees and vegetation to help with problems from stomach ailments to insomnia and everything in between… solutions that also don’t have a long list of side effects or warning labels.

But heck, don’t take my word for it, there are hundreds of testimonies out there for the stuff, thousands of years of use and experimentation and, perhaps most importantly, you can try them out for yourself and see what works for you.

Hey, it might just change your life.
